Knights of Columbus Transfiguration Council 10362

Council Programs

Church Program

Supporting the Catholic Church has been a hallmark of the Knights of Columbus since its founding in 1882. From funding the restoration of the facade of St. Peter's Basilica in Rome to operating an usher ministry at a local parish, the Knights of Columbus serves the Church in countless ways. Some of the Church Programs that Council 10362 supports are:

  • Refund Support Vocations Program Through the Knights of Columbus Refund Support Vocations Program (RSVP), councils, assemblies and Squires circles "adopt" one or more seminarians or postulants and provide them with financial assistance and moral support.

RSVP money is used by seminarians and those in religious fomation for tuition and books, car insurance and maintenance, travel during vacations, emergency expenditures and other living expenses. Knights provide more than financial support though. Members write letters to students, sponsor dinners for them, invite them to join the Order and, most importantly, pray for vocations.

  • Keep Christ in Christmas Each year the Knights of Columbus supports the "Keep Christ in Christmas" campaign to remind people that Christmas is above all else a holy day to celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ. As part of that effort our council sells Christmas cards that deliver the "Keep Christ in Christmas" message. We also distribute bumper stickers and pins.

  • Memorial Mass Each November the Council holds a special Memorial Mass to remember our departed Brother Knights.

  • Mass Ushering Council 10362 provides ushers for the Easter and Christmas Liturgy celebrations at Transfiguration. We also provide ushers for the regular 10 am Sunday Mass.

Community Program

The purpose of the council's Community Activities Program is to coordinate and develop programs that match community needs with council member's interests and council resources to help improve the world around us. Activities occur year round. Some programs are one-time events, while others are continual. Based on available time and talent, council members are availed numerous opportunities to get involved to make a difference. In addition to established programs, the Grand Knight may designate a special needs effort towards an individual or organization in need. Established programs include:

  • Must Ministries - Members spend a night volunteering at a local homeless shelter, helping to feed residents and wash clothes while residents sleep.

  • Honor Columbus - Each year over the Columbus Day weekend, the council sets up a display commemorating the Order's patron.

  • Veteran's Day - Over the Veteran's Day weekend, the council sets up a display and distributes literature and pins promoting flag use and patriotism.

  • Intellectual Disabilities Drive

Council Program

This year's Council programs are again centered around Fraternity & Fellowship, reaching out to one another, supporting and challenging one another, and truely appreciating one another for who we are and what we stand for.

  • Our council website. Designing & building a web site is continual and "maintenance intensive", so all members are encouraged to provide ideas, suggestions, and content to the site. All members are invited to join our website team.

  • Silent Retreat at the Ignatius House, exclusively for Knights of Columbus. A few of our Brothers attended this retreat last year and found it to be an absolutely wonderful experience. Please, prayerfully, consider joining your Brothers for this spiritually enriching weekend.

  • 1-2-3 Challenge...

    • 1… Recruit 1 new member to our Council.

    • 2… Commit to (a minimum of) 2 programs or events, not only as an attendee, but also as a participant or leader in planning & organizing these activities.

    • 3… Seek, reach out, encourage & engage 3 fellow Knights who have been “under-active” for some period of time, to “jump back in” and “renew their pledge” by getting involved…We’d love to see you!

Family Program

Family program creates family oriented activities for family members of all ages. We focus on quality activities that enhance the family experience. Family programs are geared to adult, children and joint activities. The programs are created for all to enjoy with immediate family as well as the extended church family in a religious and entertaining environment.

  • Lenten Friday Family Dinners

  • Thanksgiving Meals

Pro-Life Program

The Pro-Life Program provides Knights and their families with opportunities to educate themselves on Catholic teaching regarding pro-life issues and to live out their Catholic faith.

Crossroads Walk Across America: The Crossroads walkers will be visiting parishes throughout the Archdiocese of Atlanta the weekend of July 30 thru August 1 to share their inspiring message of life. these young people make a Walking Pilgrimage across the United States, giving a pro-life witness in all the cities they visit.

Youth Program

The Youth Program for this fraternal year at Transfiguration Council will continue the strong traditional linkage to the Church’s ChrisTeen Program supporting the Catholic development of our parish children. This year’s program will also strive to get us more aligned with the Supreme Council’s “Surge with Service” direction to “provide youth with the means and opportunities to become personally committed and involved in meeting the challenges of our times”. This year’s planned activities are:

  • Knight of Bowling - The Knights will host the annual Stephanie Randall Memorial Scholarship Knight of Bowling. All proceeds benefit a Transfiguration student in memory of the daughter of one of our Brother Knights.

  • Free-Throw Contest – The Knights will host the annual “Knights of Columbus Free Throw Championship” basketball program for boys and girls between the ages of 10 to 14. The council winner will advance to the district level championship.

  • Making Disciples Mentor Dinner– The Knights will cook and serve for the annual Transfiguration Making Disciples Mentor Dinner honoring the teens and adult mentors that participated in the program. In the past, this event has served over 300 people.

  • Furthermore, during this fraternal year, we will begin efforts to support the Special Olympics in the area by beginning the dialogue to incorporate Special Olympics events into the Council Youth Program.
